Students from the National University of Singapore Law visited the Asia Pacific International Arbitration Chamber

On the afternoon of 27 January 2024, students from the National University of Singapore, Faculty of Law (“NUS Law”) visited to the Singapore office of the Asia Pacific International Arbitration Chamber (“APIAC”) and had a meaningful meeting with Mr. Ma Zhanjun, the President of APIAC. This meeting provided students with an opportunity to learn and deepened their understanding of international arbitration.

During the meeting, Mr. Ma introduced to the students in detail the historical evolution of APIAC, and the remarkable development made by this institution in terms of rule innovation, employees training and international cooperation since its establishment. Mr. Ma analyzed the overall development of commercial arbitration in Singapore, and pointed out that APIAC will play a key role in supporting disputes resolution in the Asia-Pacific region and even globally, leveraging Singapore’s existing status as an international arbitration and mediation center.

Mr. Ma not only shared his rich experience in the field of arbitration with the students, but also introduced the characteristics of different legal professions such as lawyers and arbitrators. This provides useful career advice for NUS Law students and can better help them plan their future career paths.

At last, students actively participated in this exchange and interaction through self-introduction, academic sharing and Q&A. All participants conducted in-depth interactive exchanges on the evolution and practical innovation of arbitration rules in the Asia-Pacific region and the training of foreign-related legal professionals in international arbitration. This interactive exchange meeting not only enriched the students’ knowledge of international arbitration, but also provided them with a valuable opportunity to go into the arbitration institute and learn more about the operations of international arbitration.
