Launch of the Asia Pacific International Arbitration Chamber Southwest Service Center (Sichuan)

On the morning of March 29, 2024, the inauguration ceremony of the Asia Pacific International Arbitration Chamber Southwest Service Center (Sichuan) was grandly held at the National Lawyers College Western Branch in the Tianfu Central Legal Service District, Chengdu. Attendees included Mr. Ma Zhanjun, Chairman of the Asia Pacific International Arbitration Chamber, Ms. Leng Mengyue from the International Cooperation Bureau of Tianfu New Area, Sichuan. Deputy Chief Judge of Case-Filing Division Zhou Hang and Judge Assistant He Fei from the Primary People's Court of High-tech Zone (Chengdu) of Sichuan Province, Mr. Hu Songhe from the Law School of Sichuan University, Dean Deng Shanxia from the Law School of Chengdu University, Director Wei Qiong from the Law School of Southwest Jiaotong University, and Lawyer Zheng Xinren from Singapore, an arbitrator of the Asia Pacific International Arbitration Chamber, among others. Additionally, present at the inauguration ceremony were representatives from various associations, including: Member of the Standing Committee of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) Wuhou District Committee, Chengdu, the Western Branch of the National Law School, the European Union Chamber of Commerce in China(EUCCC) Southwest China, the Sichuan Provincial Council for Promotion of International Cooperation and Investment, the Western Returned Scholars Association of the Sichuan Province, the Southwest University of Political Science and Law Alumni Association of Sichuan, the National University of Singapore Alumni Association of Sichuan, the Sichuan Foreign Commerce & Trade Chamber, the Sichuan Association of Microcredit, the Foreign Legal Service Center of the Southwest Branch of European Security Academy, the Chengdu Tianfu Sub-branch, Industrial and Commercial Bank of China, the Vice President of the Sichuan Industrial Association for Public Exit and Entry  Service, as well as representatives from various law firms and enterprises.

Chairman Ma Zhanjun of the Asia Pacific International Arbitration Chamber delivered the opening speech at the inauguration ceremony. Chairman Ma stated that as an international arbitration institution, the Asia Pacific International Arbitration Chamber will provide efficient, fair, economical, and convenient dispute resolution pathways for various disputes arising from China's international commercial trade, including its outbound and inbound activities. He emphasized that the Asia Pacific International Arbitration Chamber Southwest Service Center (Sichuan) will continue to strengthen its collaboration with other domestic and international branches of the court to promote the development and innovation of international commercial arbitration in the southwestern region.

Deputy Chief Judge of Case-Filing Division Zhou Hang and Judge Assistant He Fei from the Primary People's Court of High-tech Zone (Chengdu) of Sichuan Province expressed that the People's Court has always attached great importance to cooperation and communication with international arbitration institutions. They pledged active support for the work of the Asia Pacific International Arbitration Chamber Southwest Service Center (Sichuan), intending to deepen cooperation in case coordination, information sharing, and personnel training to jointly promote the healthy development of international arbitration in the southwestern region.

Dean Deng Shanxia from the Law School of Chengdu University stated in his speech that in recent years, Chengdu has achieved significant achievements in economic and industrial development and business environment construction, attracting a large influx of domestic and foreign investments and talents. The establishment of the Asia Pacific International Arbitration Chamber Southwest Service Center (Sichuan) in Chengdu will further promote the prosperity of international arbitration in the southwestern region of China and provide diversified solutions for international commercial disputes.

Following a splendid lion dance performance, the Asia Pacific International Arbitration Chamber Southwest Service Center (Sichuan) was officially unveiled with the collective witness of leaders and guests.

In order to promote the development of international commercial arbitration in the southwestern region and strengthen the cultivation of new forces in international arbitration, the Asia Pacific International Arbitration Chamber has reached a cooperation agreement with the Law School of Sichuan University to establish the "Sichuan University Law School Asia Pacific International Arbitration Research Center" project. The aim is to jointly build a platform for arbitration theory and practice innovation research and cultivate a new generation of professionals in the field of international arbitration. Under the video witness of Dean Zuo Weimin of the Law School of Sichuan University, Chairman Ma Zhanjun of the Asia Pacific International Arbitration Chamber and Mr. Hu Songhe, representing the Law School of Sichuan University, signed the cooperation agreement.

The exchange seminar with the theme of "International Dispute Resolution" served as the final agenda item at the inauguration ceremony. During the seminar, representatives from various institutions reached a basic consensus on the increasing trend of international exchanges and cooperation due to globalization. They jointly analyzed the trends and challenges in the development of international arbitration and conducted in-depth discussions on diversified approaches to resolving current legal disputes. Many organizations and representatives pointed out that as China gradually becomes one of the core participants in global trade, Chinese enterprises and related operators are facing increasingly complex international dispute resolution issues. Arbitration, with its advantages such as highly respecting the autonomy of the parties, flexible procedures, and diverse methods, provides a fair, efficient, and convenient business environment for cross-border transactions, making it one of the most common methods of international dispute resolution.

The Asia Pacific International Arbitration Chamber Southwest Service Center (Sichuan) will continue to dedicate itself to providing more professional, efficient, and internationalized arbitration legal services, offering strong legal protection for international trade and investment within and outside the region. In the future, the Southwest Service Center will actively engage in deep exchanges and cooperation with various universities to further promote the cultivation of talents and theoretical research in international arbitration law, injecting continuous development momentum into the international arbitration industry.
