Launch Ceremony of the Asia Pacific International Arbitration Chamber Hong Kong Arbitration Center
On the morning of April 7, 2024, the launch ceremony of the Asia Pacific International Arbitration Chamber Hong Kong Arbitration Center was grandly held at the Chung Hing Commercial Building in Connaught Rd Central, Central, Hong Kong. Mr. Ma Zhanjun, Chairman of the Asia Pacific International Arbitration Chamber, Mr. Zhang Xianchu, tenured professor of the University of Hong Kong, Visiting Professor Mylene Chan from the International Law School of Peking University Shenzhen Graduate School, Ms. Huang Xiaoling, Vice Dean of the Macau International Arbitration Research Institute, Mr. Leung William, Member of the Asia Pacific International Arbitration Chamber, and Mr. Liu Tie, Representative of the Singapore Economic and Trade Representative Office, as well as other lawyers and corporate representatives from Malaysia, Shanghai, Chongqing, Chengdu, Guangzhou, Hong Kong, and Macau, attended the launch ceremony.
Mr. Ma Zhanjun, Chairman of the Asia Pacific International Arbitration Chamber delivered the opening speech for the inauguration ceremony. Chairman Ma pointed out that with the establishment of the Asia Pacific International Arbitration Chamber Hong Kong Arbitration Center in Hong Kong, efforts will be made to provide an open, inclusive, and interconnected platform for legal practitioners from Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and around the world, encouraging and supporting in-depth exchanges and discussions on topics such as cross-border dispute resolution and the development of international arbitration. The Asia Pacific International Arbitration Chamber Hong Kong Arbitration Center will serve as a "bridgehead" radiating the diversified dispute resolution mechanisms and distinctive service concepts of the Asia Pacific International Arbitration Chamber throughout the Greater Bay Area, leveraging advantages such as diverse language selection in arbitration and dual fee standards to provide more professional, efficient, convenient, and internationally recognized arbitration services to domestic and international small and medium-sized enterprises as well as Chinese enterprises expanding into overseas markets in Southeast Asia.
Professor Zhang Xianchu, tenured professor of the University of Hong Kong and Director of the Hong Kong Legal Education Foundation, delivered a speech. Professor Zhang stated that the environment for Chinese enterprises to "go global" is diverse and complex, presenting both opportunities and challenges. While facing competition with international corporations, Chinese enterprises have also established extensive cooperation with foreign companies. The establishment of the Asia Pacific International Arbitration Chamber Hong Kong Arbitration Center in Hong Kong provides new high-quality options for resolving international disputes involving Chinese enterprises, such as disputes related to Hong Kong and foreign affairs, injecting new momentum into the construction of international legal service mechanisms for economic and trade cooperation in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
Subsequently, Chairman Ma Zhanjun of the Asia Pacific International Arbitration Chamber, Tenured Professor Zhang Xianchu of the University of Hong Kong, Ms. Li Xinyi, Director of the Asia Pacific International Arbitration Chamber Hong Kong Arbitration Center, Mr. Yang Liqiang, Chairman of Qin Finance, Mr. Xie Bin, General Manager of Zhejiang Jielong Package Printing Corporation Limited, and Mr. Yin Guanjun, Lawyer of Chongqing Shariea Law Firm, jointly participated in the ribbon-cutting ceremony and unveiling ceremony for the official launch of the Asia Pacific International Arbitration Chamber Hong Kong Arbitration Center.
Following the ribbon-cutting ceremony, a salon symposium with the theme "Challenges and Opportunities for Chinese Lawyers in International Arbitration Business" was held in the conference hall. International arbitration is considered the most important means of resolving international trade disputes. Compared with court litigation, international arbitration has advantages such as confidentiality, specialization, flexibility, and simplified procedures, ensuring the widespread recognition and enforcement of awards globally. These characteristics make arbitration an effective and popular choice for handling commercial and transnational disputes. Chairman Ma Zhanjun of the Asia Pacific International Arbitration Chamber believes that lawyers engaged in international arbitration often possess excellent foreign language skills but may still have certain shortcomings in the deep theoretical research and practical operation of international commercial matters. In handling cases, Chinese lawyers often rely heavily on the assistance of foreign lawyers and teams and can only handle some basic tasks. In the future, the Asia Pacific International Arbitration Chamber hopes to create more possibilities for the training of Chinese international arbitration legal talents, for Chinese lawyers to participate in international arbitration competition, and for the enhancement of China's position in the international arbitration system.
The official launch of the Asia Pacific International Arbitration Chamber Hong Kong Arbitration Center serves as an important hub for linking the cutting-edge international dispute resolution practices of the Asia Pacific International Arbitration Chamber and optimizing and innovating the arbitration service system. Hong Kong, as a special administrative region of China, plays a bridging role in China's opening-up and international cooperation. Its unique geographical location, highly developed financial market and service system, and free and open trade policies attract professionals and high-quality enterprises from around the world. In the future, the Asia Pacific International Arbitration Chamber Hong Kong Arbitration Center will actively integrate into the international economic and trade cooperation network of the Hong Kong region, providing professional, efficient, and high-quality international arbitration legal services for economic and trade activities in the Greater Bay Area and even the Asia-Pacific region.
