Launch of Asia Pacific International Arbitration Chamber (Malaysia)
On the morning of May 10, 2024, Asia Pacific International Arbitration Chamber (Malaysia), referred to as APIAC(Malaysia), was grandly inaugurated. The opening ceremony was held at 10 a.m. in the center of Kuala Lumpur, attended and witnessed by notable figures from the legal and financial sectors, including Mr. Ma Zhanjun, President of APIAC, Datuk Lawrence S.F Chiong, Ms. Jane Yeo, Lawyer, Mr. C.Y Chan, Executive Director of DLC Consulting Ltd., Lawyer Raymond Ho, a senior Malaysian lawyer, and Lawyer Kevin Li from Zhang Shengfan Law Firm.
Before the ceremony, the guests watched a promotional video of APIAC, witnessing its development and vision together.
At the opening ceremony, President Ma Zhanjun delivered a speech on behalf of Asia Pacific International Arbitration Chamber. President Ma pointed out that APIAC(Malaysia) will focus on resolving international commercial trade and investment disputes in Malaysia, providing comprehensive legal protection for the international business environment and providing professional, efficient, and convenient arbitration services for the parties involved. The establishment of APIAC(Malaysia) will enhance Malaysia's position in resolving global commercial disputes and help Malaysia become the preferred place for international commercial arbitration.
In Datuk Lawrence S.F Chiong’s speech, he pointed out that Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) refers to the resolution of disputes or conflicts through non-litigation methods, including conciliation, mediation, and arbitration, with the aim of resolving international trade disputes in a more efficient, economical, and flexible manner. APIAC provides dispute resolution services for parties through arbitration and mediation, committed to offering a fair, transparent, and professional platform, ensuring disputes are properly resolved.
Subsequently, the leaders and guests present enjoyed a lion dance performance. The sound of gongs and drums filled the air, demonstrating an impressive aura. Like an awakened lion, full of strength and vitality, APIAC will continue to play a significant role in the field of international commercial arbitration.
At 10:18, Mr. Ma Zhanjun, President of APIAC, and Datuk Lawrence S.F Chiong jointly unveiled and cut the ribbon for the APIAC(Malaysia). With the joint witness of all leaders and guests, APIAC(Malaysia) was officially inaugurated.
After the successful opening ceremony, President Ma Zhanjun presided over a themed salon on "International Arbitration and Dispute Resolution". He stated that Malaysia, as a diverse country, boasts a superior geographical location and rich legal resources. APIAC will use APIAC(Malaysia) as a significant pivot, aiming to resolve international commercial disputes and provide a professional, efficient, convenient, and fair dispute resolution mechanism to promote the development of international trade and investment. At the same time, APIAC(Malaysia) will strive to provide an open, transparent, and inclusive platform for legal practitioners in Malaysia and the Pacific Rim countries and regions, offering the highest quality arbitration services for international trade and investment, and promoting the prosperous development of international trade and investment.
Based in the Asia-Pacific region and looking globally towards the future, the official launch of APIAC(Malaysia) will further elevate Malaysia's status in the field of international arbitration and provide more convenient and professional services for commercial dispute resolution in the Asia-Pacific region.
