Asia Pacific International Arbitration Chamber explores new trends in international arbitration, empowering Chinese lawyers to tackle challenges

Recently, a delegation led by Mr. Ma Zhanjun, President of Asia Pacific International Arbitration Chamber (APIAC), and Ms. Li XinYi, Secretary-General of APIAC Hong Kong Arbitration Center, were invited to visit to the Everwin Law Office and Beijing ZhongLun W&D Law Firm Shenzhen Office. During these visits, they conducted two in-depth and forward-looking sharing sessions on the topics of "Latest Trends in International Arbitration and Opportunities for Chinese Lawyers" and "Challenges and Opportunities for Chinese Lawyers in the Development of International Arbitration Practices."

On August 9th, at the sixth theme sharing session of the 2024 Foreign-related Rule of Law Academic Week organized by Everwin Law Office, President Ma delved deeply into the intricate current landscape of international commercial dispute resolution. He analyzed potential risks encountered throughout the international arbitration from various perspectives, such as the selection of arbitration institutions, seat of arbitration, and applicable laws, and then proposed corresponding countermeasures. Focusing on the dilemma faced by multinational parties when choosing an arbitration institution, President Ma highlighted Singapore's emergence as a preferred arbitration seats for many international businesses. This is due to its outstanding legal framework, independent judiciary system, and efficient arbitration services. He also objectively acknowledged the prevalent issue of high costs associated with international arbitration. Subsequently President Ma introduced APIAC (Singapore), an international arbitration institution initially approved by Singapore's Ministry of Law and registered with the Accounting and Corporate Regulatory Authority. Levering its strategic geographic advantages. APIAC (Singapore) is committed to offering cost-effective international arbitration services tailored to small and medium-sized enterprises.

On August 12th, during the sharing session at Beijing ZhongLun W&D Law Firm Shenzhen Office, President Ma focused on the challenges and opportunities for Chinese lawyers in the field of international arbitration. He provided a comprehensive analysis of the vast opportunities that the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) offers for the globalization of Chinese enterprises, along with the urgent demand for legal services in overseas investment and specialized professionals in international arbitration under this trend. President Ma emphasized that in the face of practical challenges such as language and cultural barriers, as well as differences in arbitration rules, Chinese lawyers are encouraged to proactively adapt to this trend. He encouraged lawyers to enhance their competitiveness by conducting thorough research on the legal environments of BRI countries and actively participating in international legal service projects, thereby seizing the opportunities of the era. His insights provided valuable guidance and direction for the future development of lawyers in the international legal services field.

This series of sharing sessions not only provided Chinese lawyers with valuable insights and practical guidance but also highlighted the active role of APIAC in fostering exchanges and connections within the legal services industry, both in the Greater Bay Area and globally.
