Legal and Arbitration Experts from Multiple Regions Gather at the APIAC (Singapore)

On the morning of August 29, 2024, several esteemed legal and arbitration experts visited the Asia Pacific International Arbitration Chamber (APIAC) (Singapore). The delegation included Mr. Tony Budidjaja, an arbitrator at the APIAC and Chairman of the Indonesia Academy of Independent Mediators and Arbitrators; Mr. A. Setiadi, a partner at 36 Sovereign Chambers; Mr. Reynard Kristian, Managing Associate at Budidjaja International Lawyers; Mr. Jonathan Chung, a partner at Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer; and Mr. Mian Sheraz Javaid, Chairman of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (Ciarb) Pakistan Branch. They were warmly received by Ms. Shao Zhuoying, Chief Representative of the APIAC (Singapore), and her team. All parties engaged in a friendly and in-depth exchange.

During the discussion, Ms. Shao Zhuoying first introduced the background of the establishment of the APIAC and provided an update on its recent developments in the Asia-Pacific region. She emphasized that the APIAC is dedicated to establishing a fair, transparent, and efficient international arbitration platform, offering high-quality dispute resolution services to commercial entities worldwide. Mr. Tony Budidjaja, drawing on his extensive experience in international arbitration and mediation, provided a detailed analysis of the trends in the Indonesian arbitration sector and emphasized the critical role of international arbitration in the context of globalization. He also shared his experiences and insights based on his experience as an arbitrator at the APIAC Indonesia Board. Mr. John Choong outlined the scope of services offered by his law firm and highlighted Hong Kong's unique advantages as a hub for international dispute resolution and legal services in the Asia-Pacific region, particularly emphasizing its professional expertise and high service quality in the field of international arbitration. He also expressed a desire to establish connections with the APIAC Hong Kong Arbitration Center. Mr. Mian Sheraz Javaid Fciarb discussed the latest developments in Pakistan's arbitration sector, including significant achievements in arbitration law reform, and underscored Pakistan's tremendous potential as an emerging arbitration market.

This exchange further deepened the mutual understanding between the APIAC and regional legal and arbitration experts. It exemplifies the APIAC to fostering regional cooperation and promoting the development of arbitration. In the future,  APIAC will continue to uphold the principles of openness, working alongside more international institutions and industry leaders to contribute to the construction of a more just and efficient international arbitration system.
