APIAC Hong Kong Arbitration Center Participates in the 9th Belt and Road Summit

On both September 11 and 12, 2024, Mr Cao Jianxiong, Vice Chairman of the Asia Pacific International Arbitration Chamber Hong Kong Arbitration Center (APIAC-HKAC), and Ms Li Xinyi, Secretary-General of APIAC-HKAC participated in the 9th Belt and Road Summit held in Hong Kong SAR, China. The summit attracted over 6,000 participants from countries and regions along the Belt & Road. They included government representatives from more than 10 countries, numerous business leaders, over 100 delegations and 38 Chinese state-owned enterprises.

The Hon. John KC Lee, Chief Executive of Hong Kong SAR Gave the Opening Remarks

In his opening speech, Chief Executive John Lee highlighted that the Belt & Road Initiative (B&RI) has inspired many countries and economies to share opportunities, development and cultural exchanges. He underscored Hong Kong's critical role in realizing the vision of the Belt and Road Initiative. Mr Lee pointed out that under the unique “One Country, Two Systems” principle, Hong Kong is the only international city that enjoys both the advantages of China and the world. As a “super connector” and a “super value-adder”, Hong Kong provides world-class infrastructure and professional services to facilitate trade and optimize projects. 

The Hon. Paul TK Lam, SBS, SC, JP, Secretary for Justice of Hong Kong SAR Gave the Welcome Remarks at the Thematic Breakout Session

 The Secretary for Justice, Mr Paul Lam, SC, delivered his welcome remarks at the thematic breakout session titled “Building a Green, Sustainable and Innovative Silk Road through Hong Kong's Legal and Dispute Resolution Services”. He emphasized that legal issues and even disputes are inevitable during the implementation of Belt and Road projects,and Hong Kong is ideally positioned to provide one-stop, high-level international legal and dispute resolution services.
