Asia Pacific International Arbitration Chamber (Malaysia) Visits the China Enterprises Chamber of Commerce in Malaysia

On July 4, 2024, Ma Zhanjun, President of the Asia Pacific International Arbitration Chamber(“APIAC”), along with Cao Jianxiong, President Assistant and Vice Chairman of APIAC Hong Kong Arbitration Center, and Deng Zhaoying, Deputy Director of the APIAC(Malaysia) and their team visited the China Enterprises Chamber of Commerce in Malaysia (“CECCM”). They were warmly welcomed by Cao Mengjie, Assistant to the President of CECCM, participated in the discussion and exchange.

At the beginning of the meeting, the team members of APIAC (Malaysia) played a promotional video of APIAC to the representatives of the China Enterprises Chamber of Commerce in Malaysia (CECCM) and introduced its organizational framework and development philosophy with great detail.

During the discussion, President Ma expressed that APIAC (Malaysia) is a local arbitration institution in Malaysia managed and guided by APIAC(Singapore). He highlighted that the commitment of APIAC is to provide fair, efficient, and professional arbitration legal services for Chinese enterprises going aboard as well as enterprises from countries and regions around the Pacific Rim, by assisting resolution of international commercial disputes. President Ma also emphasized that charges for international arbitration are generally substantial and unaffordable for most of the small and medium-sized enterprises (“SMEs”) and thereby creates difficulties for cross-border dispute resolution. In response to this contemporary issue, APIAC pays close attention to the needs of SMEs, offering fee structure with greater degree of transparency and providing high-quality international arbitration services which is more cost-effective.

It is reported that CECCM established since 2002. Its objective is to promote healthy development of Chinese enterprises in Malaysia and to safeguard their legitimate interests. Its mission is to facilitate mutual connection and communication among Chinese enterprises; to enhance understanding and communication between Chinese enterprises and the malaysian business community; to expand economic and trade cooperation with Malaysia; to guide and coordinate the legal operation and fair competition of Chinese enterprises; and to address major business issues, and to represent its members in external negotiations.

Mr. Cao Mengjie expressed that CECCM is highly interested in professional international arbitration legal services provided by APIAC. He stated that APIAC with its outstanding performance in the field of international arbitration and its aim to resolve the dilemmas faced by the SMEs and also the capability of APIAC to offer effective dispute resolutions for the member companies of CECCM facing cross-border commercial disputes. CECCM looks forward to establishing a long-term connection and to formulate a communication mechanism with APIAC to provide more comprehensive legal advice for chinese enterprises in Malaysia.

The meeting ended with fruitful outcome, with both parties expressing their commitment to further strengthening their connection in the future and to explore the potential opportunities and challenges under “Belt and Road” Initiative. They also expressed their dedication in encouraging innovative development in their respective industries, to foster the prosperity and improvement.

In the future, APIAC(Malaysia) will continue to enhance its connection with various enterprises and chambers of commerce based on global commercial entities’ demand for dispute resolution, improving the quality of advice and service, in order  to provide better international arbitration services to a broader range of enterprises.
