Asia Pacific International Arbitration Chamber Attended the 59th Anniversary Gala of the Republic of Singapore

On August 17, 2024, the 59th Anniversary Gala of the Republic of Singapore, hosted by the China-Singapore Sichuan Chamber of Commerce and Singapore Global Network, was grandly held at the Gran Meliá Chengdu Hotel. Mr. Jason Xie, Deputy Secretary-General of the Asia Pacific International Arbitration Chamber(“APIAC”), Mr. Yin Guanjun, Arbitrator of the APIAC, Ms. Luna Cai, Director of the Operations Centre of the APIAC, and Ms. Sandy Shao, Chief Representative of the APIAC (Singapore), attended the National Day celebration. In addition, Ms. Deng Shanxia, Dean of the School of Law at Chengdu University; Ms. Zhang Kun, Director of Beijing Hengdu (Chengdu) Law Firm; Mr. Wang Debo, Senior Partner at Sichuan Mingju Law Firm; and Mr. Liao Yao, Partner at Tahota Law Firm, has also been invited.

On the evening of the gala, distinguished guests including Mr. Peter Tan Hai Chuan, Singapore's Ambassador to the China; Mr. Joel Tan Zhien, Singapore's Consul-General in Chengdu; Mr. Wang Ziyuan, Chairman of the China-Singapore Chamber of Commerce; and Ms. Jessie Lim, Chairman of the China-Singapore Sichuan Chamber of Commerce, gathered with various partners and guests of the chambers to celebrate the 59th anniversary of the Republic of Singapore.

In his speech, Singapore's Ambassador to China, Mr. Peter Tan Hai Chuan, reflected on the 59 years of Singapore's nation-building journey. He emphasized that Singapore's development into a harmonious and prosperous nation has been made possible by the dedication of every Singaporean, as well as through sustained cooperation and exchange with friendly nations around the world, including China. Mr. Peter Tan Hai Chuan highlighted that the bilateral relationship between Singapore and China has evolved over the years, leading to the establishment of extensive and deep cooperation mechanisms across various fields such as economics, politics, and cultural exchanges, yielding significant achievements. Looking ahead, he expressed his hope that Singapore and China would further deepen their collaboration in these and other areas, working together to address the challenges brought by globalization and contributing to peace and development in the Asia-Pacific region and the world at large.

Singapore's Consul-General in Chengdu, Mr. Joel Tan Zhien, specifically highlighted Chengdu's significant role in the cooperation between Singapore and China. He noted that Chengdu is a key strategic hub for development in China's southwestern region and a focal point for multifaceted cooperation between China and Singapore in areas such as Asia-Pacific economic and trade, cultural exchange, and education. He expressed his hope that both sides would continue to enhance their exchanges in the future, bringing even greater benefits to the people of both nations.

Ms. Jessie Lim, Chairman of the China-Singapore Sichuan Chamber of Commerce, emphasized Sichuan's role as a key economic growth engine in the southwestern region of China, as well as the Chamber's bridge in fostering economic and trade cooperation between Singapore and Sichuan. Chairman Lin stated that the China-Singapore Sichuan Chamber of Commerce would continue to uphold a positive attitude of "cooperation and mutual benefit," dedicated to promoting friendly collaboration and exchanges between businesses in both regions, and contributing to the economic development and growth of both areas.

It has maintained a long-standing and friendly relationship with the China-Singapore Chamber of Commerce. Mr. Jason Xie extended his warm congratulations on the 59th anniversary of the Republic of Singapore. Following the event, he engaged in an in-depth discussion with Singapore's Ambassador to China, Mr. Peter Tan Hai Chuan. During this exchange, Mr. Jason Xie specifically highlighted the core strengths of the APIAC as an international arbitration institution in the field of international dispute resolution services. He emphasized that the APIAC will continue to leverage its unique advantages in areas such as the choice of arbitration language and the development of its panel of arbitrators, further strengthening the foundation for cooperation between Singapore and China in the fields of arbitration and legal services.
