Release time:2024-11-05 15:44:55

October 26, 2024, the academic symposium on "Legal Education and Legal Research Since the Reform and Opening Up" and the commemorative seminar marking the Sichuan University (“SCU”) Law School's 40th anniversary of resuming admissions was grandly held at the SCU Jiang'an Campus. President Ma Zhanjun of Asia Pacific International Arbitration Chamber (“APIAC”) was invited to attend and deliver a speech.

Mr. Wang Jun, Head of the Political Department of the Sichuan Provincial Committees of the CPC’ Politics and Law Commission, Party Secretary of the Commission’s Party-Related Affairs Department, Mr. Jiang Lichun, Deputy Party Secretary of the Chengdu City Committee of the CPC’s Politics and Law Commission, Ms. Han Fang, Vice President of SCU, Mr. Zuo Weimin, Dean of the SCU Law School, leaders from the Sichuan Provincial Higher People's Court, the Sichuan Provincial Department of Justice, and other components of the Sichuan provincial political and legal system, representatives from renowned schools such as the Fudan University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Zhongnan University of Economics and Law, and the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences,as well as representatives from partner organizations and law firms attended this series of meetings together.

At the meeting, panelists discussed and exchanged views on the topic of “Practice-Oriented Legal Education,” focusing particularly on the issue of practical legal talent cultivation. They engaged in in-depth discussions on how to enhance the national legal system and rule of law services through optimizing cooperation mechanisms between universities and judicial institutions for talent development. President Ma Zhanjun emphasized that, against the backdrop of global integration, an increasing number of market entities are looking overseas. This has led to complex legal disputes, diverse procedural applications, and other related issues. Due to their efficiency and flexibility in dispute resolution, non-litigious dispute resolution mechanisms such as arbitration and mediation have gained favor among commercial entities. However, China’s current pool of legal talent is somewhat lacking in this area, with insufficient international recognition and influence, thus placing higher practical demands on the training of legal professionals in society.

SCU Law School, selected as one of the first national-level top undergraduate programs and as the Ministry of Education's first innovation base for cooperative cultivation of international legal talents, is one of China's most influential law schools. Currently, the collaboration project between the APIAC (Singapore) and SCU Law School on the Arbitration Research Center has been implemented. Both parties will continue to actively engage in further in-depth cooperation on research and innovation in foreign-related legal dispute resolution pathways. As an international legal service institution, the APIAC will also continue to promote the stable development of investment and trade in the Asia-Pacific region.
