Secretariat International Malaysia Branch Visit to APIAC (Malaysia)

On October 8, 2024, the Asia Pacific International Arbitration Chamber (Malaysia), hereinafter referred to as “APIAC(Malaysia)” welcomed a delegation from the international strategic consulting firm Secretariat International Malaysia Branch, led by its Director Mr Farid, including Associate Director Ms Elaine Wan and Associate Mr Ong Kay Aun. The meeting was attended by APIAC (Malaysia)’s Chief Representative, Ms. Deng Zhaoying, the Representatives of APIAC (Malaysia), Ms. Yin Lingling and Ms. Chen Xinqi, the Deputy Secretary-General of APIAC (Malaysia), Ms. Yong Shun Yee.

Key discussions revolved around the growth of Chinese Contractors in Malaysian Construction Market, especially the declining trend of mega projects post-covid. Both parties exchanged insights on the significant challenges in understanding and adapting to Chinese business culture when dealing with Chinese contractors and the disputes that arose therefrom, as well as the demand for alternative dispute resolution mechanisms.

The delegation of Secretariat International Malaysia Branch gained deeper insights into the strategic advantages of APIAC (Malaysia) in the local market and looked forward to more upcoming initiatives. Both parties agreed that, with the growth of Chinese investments in Malaysia, APIAC (Malaysia), equipped with the competitive advantages of understanding Chinese business culture and offering multilingual services, will be better positioned to meet the needs of Chinese contractors in the Malaysian construction industry, thereby providing arbitration services with greater convenience to Chinese enterprises. Secretariat International Malaysia Branch also expressed their anticipation for more opportunity to enhance the quality of alternative dispute resolution services in Malaysia together with APIAC (Malaysia).
